Remarks (internal):Both species have some characters in common which are absent from almost all genera of Corticiaceae and also not known from Gloeocystidiellum s.str.: the hyphae are coenocytic and lack clamps or show only a few, sometimes verticillate clamps. Both species are only known from Africa.

Description:Gloeocystidiopsis Jülich, gen.nov.
Basidiocarp resupinate, effused, several cm large, c. 100-400 µm thick, ceraceous to firm-membranaceous, context homogeneous, margin thinning out or rather abrupt, rhizomorphs lacking. Hyphal system monomitic. Hyphae hyaline, vertically arranged, cylindrical, c. 2-3-5 ,um wide, thin- to thick-walled, without clamps or with few singel or verticillate clamps. Gloeocystidia (sulphocystidia) present, hyaline to pale brownish, zylindrical to fusiform, thin- to slightly thick-walled, with secondary septa. Basidia hyaline, narrowly clavate, without a basal clamp, 4-spored. Spores hyaline, ellipsoid, thin- to slightly thickwalled, almost smooth to slightly warted in Melzer's, smooth in KOH, strongly amyloid.

Taxon name:
