Description:Megalocystidium leucoxanthum (Bres.) Jülich, Persoonia 10(1): 140, 1978.
Bas.: Corticium leucoxanthum Bres., Fung. trident. 2(11-13): 57, 1898. Syn.: Gloeocystidiellum leucoxanthum (Bres.) Boidin, C. r. hebd. Séanc. Acad. Sci., Paris 233: 825, 1951.
Basidiome resupinate, adnate, orbicular, hymenial smooth, yellowish to isabelline, cracked in lips-like, margin indifferentiated. Hyphal system monomitic, hyphae with clamps, branched, 2-3 µm wide, smooth, thin-walled, forming a rather loose texture in the basal layer, denser in the subhymenium. Gloeocystidia, numerous, tubular, some with an apical appendix, variable in size and shape, mostly 80-150 x 8-12 µm, with a basal clamp, smooth, thin- to slightly thick-walled, enclosed or arriving at the same basidial level, SA+. Basidia narrowly clavate, 40-60 x 5-7 µm, 4-spored, with a basal clamp. Basidiospores suballantoid to oblong, mostly 14-16 x 5-6 µm, some larger, smooth, thin-walled, strongly amyloid, frequently collapsed.
Distribution in Europe: Russia, Estonia, France, Germany, Belarus, Poland, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Belgium, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Turkey, Sweden, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Spain, Ukraine, and the Caucasus. Rare species in Italy and known from Trentino Alto-Adige, Emilia-Romagna, and Sardegna Regions.
Substrata: on Salix caprea, Castanea sativa and Abies alba.
