Description:Megalocystidium luridum (Bres.) Jülich, Persoonia 10(1): 140, 1978.
Bas.: Corticium luridum Bres., Fung. trident. 2(11-13): 59, 1898. Syn.: Gloeocystidiellum luridum (Bres.) Boidin, C. r. hebd. Séanc. Acad. Sci., Paris 233: 1668, 1951.
Basidiome resupinate, adnate, effused, ceraceous and hygrophanous when fresh, rimose with age, hymenophore smooth, yellowish to isabelline, margin indifferentiated. Hyphal system monomitic, hyphae with clamps, 2-3 µm in diam, smooth, thin-walled, interwoven in the basal layer, forming a denser texture in the sumhymenial layer. Gloeocystidia, numerous, tubular, some with an apical appendix, variable in size and shape, mostly 80-120 x 6-10 µm, with a basal clamp, smooth, thin- to slightly thick-walled, enclosed or arriving at the same basidial level, SA+. Basidia narrowly clavate, 40-60 x 5-7 µm, with 4-sterigmata, with a basal clamp. Basidiospores ellipsoid, 7-8 x 4-5 µm, smooth, thin-walled, strongly amyloid.
Distribution in Europe: Russia, Estonia, France, Germany, Belarus, Poland, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Belgium, United Kingdom, Slovenia, Netherlands, Portugal, Turkey, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, and the Caucasus. Known from Lombardia, Trentino Alto-Adige, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria, Sicilia, and Sardegna.
Substrata: it occurs on Quercus pubescens, Castanea sativa, Fraxinus ornus, Fagus sylvatica, Alnus incana and Juniperus communis.
