| Description : | Scleroderma areolatum Ehrenberg. Macromorphology: Mat height 3-5 mm, surface yellow (2A7) inwards to dark brown (5F7) margin, underside brownish yellow (5C8) to brown (5E8) near center; texture densely woolly to very loosely woolly towards margin; mat margin flaring; agar tinted vivid yellow (2A8) throughout. Micromorphology: Hyphae (2-)4.2-4.6(-7) µm wide, contents clear or slightly granular, colorless to light yellow (2A5); clamps absent, most septae at simple and multiple branch junctions, much diverse and erratic branching and many swellings at septae, some resembling false-clamps (Fig. 1E); occasional intertwined hyphae with some larger bundles of hyphae beginning to develop mycelial strands; abundant staghorn branches composed of short, aseptate hyphae; abundant dendritic-flaring, deep yellow (4A8) crystals in agar surrounding oldest hyphae, 10-30 µm broad. Growth rate: (26-)31.5(-36) mm.
