Title:Two new Kirschsteiniothelia species with Dendryphiopsis anamorphs cluster in Kirschsteiniotheliaceae fam. nov.

Abstract:Two new Kirschsteiniothelia species are proposed in this present study, both isolated from decaying wood samples from Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai Provinces in northern Thailand. The taxa were isolated and the morphological characters are described and illustrated. ITS, LSU and SSU combined sequence analysis showed that fungal members of Kirschsteiniothelia separated into three lineages: 1). K. elaterascus grouped within Morosphaeriaceae (Pleosporales) with strong statistical support (99% BT, 1.00 PP); 2). K. maritima clustered with Mytilinidion spp. as a sister group in the Mytilinidiaceae clade, with 100% BT, 1.00 PP support; and 3). the two new Kirschsteiniothelia species produce a Dendryphiopsis anamorph in culture and clustered with K. aethiops (the generic type) and the anamorph D. atra. The new family of Kirschsteiniotheliaceae is introduced to accommodate taxa grouping with K. aethiops. K. elaterascus is transferred to the genus Morosphaeria (Morosphaeriaceae) and a new genus Halokirschteiniothelia is erected to accommodate K. maritima (Mytilinidiaceae).
