Description:Crepidotus cesatii (Rab.) Sacc. var. subsphaerosporus (J. Lange) Senn-Irlet characteristics: growth rate slow, aerial mycelium felty, white, terminal cells numerous, cystidia-like.
PiNL: advancing zone appressed to raised, hyphae hyaline. Aerial mycelium felty to velvety, faintly zonate, white; reverse white.
PDA: advancing zone raised, narrow, hyphae hyaline. Aerial mycelium velvety, cream; reverse cream.
MEA: advancing zone narrowly appressed, hyphae hyaline. Aerial mycelium velvety, isolates granular, at times grooved, faintly zonate, cream; reverse cream-apricot.
Advancing zone of 1.8-2.5 µm wide, cylindric hyphae; terminal cell straight and regularily clamped, subterminal cell branched and often with 1 to 3, up to 10 µm long finger-like excrescences. Aerial mycelium of 2.8-4 µm wide, cylindric, abundantly branched hyphae; granular plasmatic up to 8 µm wide swollen cells present (monilioid hyphae); cystidia-like erect terminal swellings 30-40 x 5-10 µm clavate and flexuose; hyphal strands of 2-6, 1.5-2.5 µm wide cylindric twisted hyphae present. Submerged mycelium dense, mostly short-branched with many cystidia-like terminal swellings. Clamps abundant.
