Description:Aspergillus glaucus Link
Colony characteristics. Colonies (CzA) spreading broadly, flat, dull green to grey-green.
Microscopy. Conidial heads sparse, radiate, 500-1000 ?m diam, pale blue-green. Vesicles spherical. Conidiophores 700-800 x 2-3 ?m, hyaline, smooth-walled. Conidiogenous cells uniseriate, 5.0-7.5 x 3-4 ?m. Conidia ovoidal or aculeate, echinulate, hyaline, 4.5-7.5 ?m diam.
Teleomorph. Eurotium herbariorum (Wiggers) Link (Ascomycota, Euascomycetes, Eurotiales: Trichocomaceae).
Ascomata covered with red hyphae, yellow, spherical to subspherical, 75-125 ?m diam. Asci 8-spored, 10-12 ?m diam. Ascospores smooth-walled or occasionally slightly roughened, with a pronounced equatorial furrow, hyaline to subhyaline, lenticular, 6-7 x 3.2-5.1 ?m.
Pathogenicity. BSL-1. The species has been reported from cases of onychomycosis (Bereston & Waring, 1946). More recently, otitis (Bambule et al., 1982) and orofacial infections (Dreizen et al., 1985) have been reported, as well as cerebral, cardiovascular and visceral infections (Rippon, 1988).
