Description:Aspergillus janus Raper & Thom
Colony characteristics. Colonies (CzA) spreading irregularly, pale yellow-buff with dark green and white zones.
Microscopy. Conidial heads of two types: green and columnar, and white and radiate. (1) Conidiophores with green heads, smooth-walled, 300-400 ?m in length; stipes hyaline to slightly yellow; vesicles ovoidal; conidiogenous cells biseriate with metulae all over. Conidia spherical, dark green in mass, spinulose, 2.5-3.5 ?m diam. (2) Conidiophores with white heads, smooth-walled, 2.0-2.5 mm in length, stipes hyaline to slightly yellow; vesicles clavate, entire surface covered by metulae; conidiogenous cells biseriate. Conidia hyaline, minutely verrucose (smooth-walled with light microscopy), (sub)spherical, 2.0-2.5 ?m diam.
Pathogenicity. BSL-1. Keratitis (Neuhann, 1976).
