Description:Cladosporium sphaerospermum Penz.
Colony characteristics. Colonies (MEA 2%) moderately expanding, velvety to powdery, olive-green to olivaceous brown; reverse greenish-black.
Microscopy. Conidiophores of variable length, up to 300 µm long, 3-5 µm wide, pale to mid olivaceous brown, smooth-walled or verrucose, not nodose. Ramoconidia 0-3-septate, elongate, smooth-walled or verrucose. Conidia (sub)spherical, mid to dark olivaceous brown, verrucose, 3-5 µm diam.
Pathogenicity. BSL-1. Common saprobe. This fungus was implicated in a case of human corneal ulcer (Shukla et al., 1983), in a bronchial lesion (Yano et al., 2003) and has been isolated from skin lesions and onychomycoses (Badillet et al., 1982).
