Description:Scytalidium infestans Iwatsu et al.
Colony characteristics. Colonies (PDA) with restricted growth, umbonate, velvety, dark green.
Microscopy. Hyphae hyaline to pale brown, smooth-walled. Arthroconidia brown when mature, rather thick-walled, smooth-walled or verrucose, oblong, doliiform or broadly ellipsoidal, truncate at both ends, 0-1 (-3)-septate, 4-30 x 2.0-4.5 ?m when non-septate or 7-23 x 4-5 µm when 1-septate, not easily detached.
Physiology. Ribose, melibiose, lactose, myo-inositol, creatine and creatinine assimilated; d-glucosamine not assimilated; tolerant to cycloheximide and 10% NaCl; urease present.
Pathogenicity. BSL-1. Systemic mycosis in fish (Iwatsu et al., 1990).
