Description:Tetraploa aristata Berk. & Br.
Colony characteristics. Colonies (OA) restricted, dark greyish, velvety.
Microscopy. Hyphae 1.5-3.0 ?m wide, pale to dark brown. Conidia sessile, solitary, brown, verruculose, tetra-columnar, with 3-4 cells in each column, with shallow furrows between the columns, 30-40 x 12-30 ?m; the columns diverge from one another apically and each terminate in an appendage; appendages setiform, septate, 20-60 ?m in length, 5-7 ?m wide at the base, tapering to 2-3 ?m wide at the tip.
Pathogenicity. BSL-1. The species has been reported as agent of keratitis (Newmark & Polack, 1970; Zapater, 1980) and subcutaneous infection (Markham et al., 1990).
