Description:Laxitextum Lentz, U.S. Dept. Agric. Monogr. no. 24, p. 18. 1955.
Type species: Thelephora bicolor Pers. : Fr.
Basidiomata annual; resupinate, effuso-reflexed or sessile; soft-coriaceous. Upper surface yellow to brown. Hymenial surface even to sparsely tuberculate; white to pale yellow, rarely brown.
Hyphal system monomitic. Hyphae with clamps; hyaline to yellowish brown. Cutis absent. Gloeocystidia cylindrical to somewhat acute; thin-walled; contents sulfo-negative, amyloid in one species. Basidia clavate to subcylindrical; 4-sterigmate; basal clamp present. Basidiospores subglobose to ovoid; hyaline; minutely echinulate (best visible in Melzer's); thin-walled; amyloid; 1-nucleate.
Discussion: When Lentz (1955) erected Laxitextum he including three species: L. bicolor, L. crassum (= Phanerochaete crassa), and L. roseocarneum (= Dendrocorticium roseocarneum). With the latter two species transferred to other genera (see Chapter Four), Laxitextum remained monotypic until Hjortstam & Ryvarden (1981) described L. lutescens and L. incrustatum. There are, however, at least five intersterile groups or "biological species" included under L. bicolor (Boidin, 1977; see also discussion under L. bicolor).
