Descr In b/c: Coloniae plus minusve effusae, velutinae, olivaceae. Hyphae vegetativae hyalinae vel modice brunneae, 1.5-4.5 µm latae. Conidiophora simplicia, interdum ramosa, septata, brunnea, (200-) 300-500 (-600) µm longa, 5-8.5 µm lata, apice sympodialiter prolifera, nodosa et elongata. Conidia solitaria vel brevicatenata, oblonga vel ovata, magnitudine variabilia, 15-41.5 x 8-17.5 µm, transverse (0-) 1-3 (-5) - septata, echinulata, olivaceo-brunnea. Agaro sucroso solanaceo (on potato sucrose agar): Coloniae tenues, exaratae, margine albae; postea agar purpurascens.
Mem Cladosporium phlei is known to cause oval, purple-bordered leaf spot on cat's-tails, especially thimothy.

Heterosporium Klotzsch from Cooke (in Grevillea, 5: 122- 123; 1877) "Flocci erecti, septati, flaccidi. Sporis heterogenis, deciduis, demum multiseptatis, subhyalinis, echinulatis vel granulatis." This genus approaches Cladosporium in habit. All the species yet known are parasitic on living or fading leaves. Type species: Heterosporium ornithogali (Klotzsch) Cooke. ** Jacques, J. E., 1941, Contrib. Inst. Bot. Univ. Montreal, No. 39. (46 pp.) Studies in the genus Heterosporium. => The name Heterosporium was used in Klotzsch's Herbarium (1832), for H. maculatum Kl., and H. ornithogali Kl, without diagnoses.
