"Pileo dimidiato-sessili (parvulo) semiorbiculari suberoso-coriaceo lento tomentoso concentrice sulcato unicolori fuligineo margine obtuso, subtus determinate sterili, contextu porisque brevibus minutis rotundis obtussimis concoloribus. - Hab. in truncis ramisque ad Zuurebergen prope Bontjesrivier 2000 ped. altit. Novembri. -Coll., n. 9433. b.
Obs.
"Pileus dimidiate-sessile (small), semiorbicular, suberose-coriaceous, tough, tomentose, concentrically sulcate, unicolorous, fuligineous, with obtuse margin distinctly sterile below, pores short, minute, rounded, obtuse, and concolorous. Hab. on trunks and branches, Zuurebergen, near Bontjesrivier, 2 000 ft alt., November. - Coll. n. 9433.b.
Obs.
TYPE: Prom. Bonae Spei. Drege No. 33 in PC.
Sporophore: The collection consists of half a fruitbody measuring 1,85 cm from point of attachment to the margin and 1,15 cm in width. The upper surface is brown, covered by a thick velvety tomentum; there is no distinct cuticle. Pores concolorous, with a greyish tint, more or less angular, with fairly thin, obtuse dissepiments, and measure 3-4 per mm; tubes slightly paler than the flesh, up to 1 mm long. Flesh concolorous with the pileus, up to 1 mm thick. Hyphal structure dimitic. Skeletal hyphae, 5-8 µm wide, with slightly thickened but distinct brown walls, and a very wide, non-septate lumen. Generative hyphae, 2,5-3,5 µm wide, thin-walled, hyaline, branched, with clamp-connexions at the septa. Binding hyphae not seen in either the context of the pileus or in the tube walls. However, in the latter the skeletals have thicker walls. Spores 8,2-11,0 x 4,2-5,75 µm, scanty, hyaline, elliptic.
This species may belong in Funalia Pat.; it closely resembles F. protea (Berk.) Reid but I am unable to see binding hyphae and the spores, if they belong, are broader than in this species.
