Description:Perithecia nonstromatic, immersed in the substratum, only the long neck emerging, solitary to gregarious, dark brown to black, venter globose to subglobose, 300-400 µm high, 350-500 um diam, glabrous, with cylindrical neck that may become slightly swollen apically, straight to slightly flexuous, rounded at the top, 400-1200 µm long, 90-120 µm wide. Perithecial wall leathery, two-layered, 30-40 µm thick; outer layer textura prismatica, cells dark brown polyhedral to brick-like; cells in the neck of textura prismatica to porrecta; inner layer of textura prismatica; cells hyaline, thin-walled, and elongated. Ostiolum periphysate. Paraphyses abundant, dissolving apically, septate, constricted at the septa, wider near the base ca. 4-5 µm, tapering to ca. 2 µm towards the tip, longer than the asci. Asci unitunicate, clavate in sporiferous part, ascal apex rounded-truncate with a distinct, shallow, refractive apical annulus, (35-)40-52 µm long in pars sporifera, (8-)9-13 µm wide (broadest part), (mean ± se = 42.95 ± 0.52 x 10.82 ± 0.14 µm), stipe 15-45 µm long; contracted below the sporiferous part into a long tapering stipe; upper sporiferous part just below the apex narrower, usually with 1 ascospore only, remaining ascospores unordered or obliquely 1-2-seriately arranged; arising from croziers on elongating ascogenous hypha. Ascospores oblong to ellipsoidal, rounded at the ends, (9-)10-12.5(-14) x 3.5-4 µm (mean ± se = 10.43 ± 0.13 x 3.67 ± 0.03 µm), hyaline, smooth, aseptate, with two large guttules.
