Description:Podohydnangium Beaton, Pegler & Young gen. nov.
Gasterocarp subepigeal, hemiangiocarpic, small, globose to turbinate or stipitate, with gleba progressively exposed towards the base. Peridium very thin, membranous, pale coloured, finally flaking away. Gleba concolorous, non-gelatinized, comprising radially arranged chambers. Chambers small, irregular, anastomosing, hollow. Columella present, partially to completely percurrent; stipe present, short, varying from a turbinate swelling to a narrow, tortuous cylindric outgrowth. Spore deposit white to cream colour. Spores orthotropic, statismosporic, globose, hyaline, inamyloid, non-dextrinoid, with an ornamentation of crowded, hyaline spines. Basidia elongated at maturity, bearing 2 or 4 sterigmata. Hymenophoral trama regular, hyaline. Peridiopellis undifferentiated, of repent, agglutinated hyphae. All hyphae with clamp-connexions.
