Remarks (public):This isolate is distinguished by its nearly total lack of enzymes among those tested, with positive reactions on CAA and BCP-MSG agar indicating a preference for proteins and amino acids rather than complex carbohydrates.

Growth on MEA: Slow, plates covered in 6 wk, to very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Radius at 2 wk averaging 23.8 im (21-26), at 6 wk averaging 70 mm (63-75). Margins even, or becoming bayed at 6 wk, appressed, wispy, hyaline. Aerial mycelium absent at 2 wk; mat silky, at 6 wk silky or with a few floccose bits, azonate, hyaline. Reverse at 2 wk faintly bleached, at 6 wk faintly bleached. Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour 2+ to 3+, "other", of H2S.
Microscopic characters: Marginal hyphae tubular, straight, thin-walled, 1.4-3.5 µm broad, with simple clamp connections, regularly branched, with some branches from or opposite clamp connections. Cultures monomitic, generative hyphae in older mat remaining thin-walled, tubular, undifferentiated, smooth, inamyloid, 1.2-5.4 µm broad, with simple clamp connections. Crystals present among aerial hyphae and in agar, tetrahedral, 8-10 µm broad, singly. Submerged hyphae similar to aerial, inamyloid, 1.5-5.6 µm broad, with simple clamp connections, thin-walled. Conidia lacking.
Growth on PDA: Very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Diameter at 2 wk averaging 20.6 mm (19-24), at 6 wk averaging 35.4 mm (35-39.5). Margins even or becoming uneven, appressed or becoming submerged, fimbriate to wispy to fimbriate, hyaline. Aerial mycelium absent at 2 wk; mat silky to greasy, at 6 wk densely silky to greasy, with scattered downy bits and pellicular patches, sometimes lacunose, azonate. Mat cream to faintly orange (4AB3, 4B3, 6AB2). Reverse at 2 wk coloured, pale yellow to orange (5B3), at 6 wk (4½B3, 6AB2, 6B2). Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour 4+, of sulphur springs.
Growth on ML: Very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Diameter at 2 wk averaging 31.5 mm (27.5-39), at 6 wk averaging 60.2 mm (44.5-75). Margins even to wavy, appressed, becoming submerged, wispy to fimbriate, hyaline. Aerial mycelium present; mat low and thin, silky to farinose to cottony, at 6 wk densely silky to thinly woolly, sometimes lacunose, azonate. Mat hyaline to white, to pale yellow (5A1½-583) at 6 wk. Reverse at 2 wk coloured, pale yellow (40A3-583), at 6 wk pale orange (5C3, 5C4). Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour 3+ to 4+, of sulphur springs.

Growing on angiosperms (Quercus); herbarium records (DAOM) primarily on conifers. Sexuality and nuclear behaviour unknown.
