Add this item to the list   Dendrothele candida (Schw.) Lemke

Literature:

Page number:328
Remarks (public):This species is distinguished in culture by its extremely slow growth, strong reactions on TAA and GAA, strong clearing of NAS and BCP-MSG, and sensitivity to malachite green and cycloheximide. Cultures grow mich more vigorously on alphacel agar or WSH agar. Unlike most other species of Dendrothele, D. candida is not strongly sensitive to benomyl.

Species code: 2ab.6.7.26.(27).32.36.38.39.47.(50-53).54.
Growth on MEA: Very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Radius at 2 wk averaging 4.3 mm (3.3-5.2), at 6 wk averaging 8.1 mm (5.5-9.8). Margins even to bayed, appressed, fimbriate to wispy, hyaline. Aerial mycelium absent at 2 wk, disk just fuzzing out. Mat at 6 wk silky to downy to woolly, azonate, hyaline to white. Reverse at 2 wk coloured, orange to brown (disk), at 6 wk coloured, orange to brown (5B3-7F4). Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour nil to 3+, "fragrant" to "other" (rotted sauerkraut, bile plus lemon).
Microscopic characters: Marginal hyphae tubular, straight to undulating, thin-walled, 2.3-3.6(-4.2) µm broad, with sparse, simple septa, sparsely branched to regularly branched. Branching peg- or finger-like or antleroid, not associated with septa. Cultures monomitic, generative hyphae in older mat predominantly tubular, smooth, inamyloid, 1.2-3.6 µm broad, simple-septate, remaining thin-walled or with walls up to 0.8 µm thick, with scattered intercalary swellings 4.3-9.2 µm broad, and occasionally slightly inflated, constricted at septa, swollen to 5.0 µm broad. Capilliform hyphae present or absent, tangled, 1.2-2 µm broad. Crystals present among aerial hyphae, polarized, tabular, 3.5-9 µm broad, singly or in rosettes. Submerged hyphae predominantly tubular or lumpy-undulating, inamyloid, 1.9-4.2 µm broad, simple-septate, thin-walled, occasionally faintly inflated, to 5.7 µm broad, constricted at septa. Conidia lacking.
Growth on PDA: Very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Diameter at 2 wk averaging 7.8 mm (5.5-10), at 6 wk averaging 18.1 mm (7-28.5). Margins uneven to bayed, appressed, fimbriate, hyaline. Aerial mycelium present. Mat at 2 wk silky, at 6 wk silky to cottony to woolly, azonate. Mat hyaline to white to cream (3½AB3-6D4). Reverse at 2 wk coloured, brown (to 6D4, 7E4), at 6 wk coloured, brown (7½E4, 5B4). Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour nil to 2+, "fragrant", "earthy or musty" or "other" (nil or lemony, almond, musty, bilious, yeasty).
Growth on ML: Very slow, plates not covered after 6 wk. Diameter at 2 wk averaging 10 mum (6.4-14), at 6 wk averaging 20.5 mm (8-24.5). Margins even to uneven, appressed, fimbriate, hyaline. Aerial mycelium present. Mat dense, low and thin, silky to farinose to downy, with cottony disk, at 6 wk silky to cottony, azonate. Mat hyaline to white to cream to pale orange to brown (4A2, 5½B3, 6½D4). Reverse at 2 wk coloured, orange to brown (5B3-7CD4), similar at 6 wk (4-B3, 6D3-7D4). Not fruiting within 6 wk. Odour nil to 2+, "fragrant" or "other" (almond, lemon, lemon oil, plus yeast or bile).
Growing on angiosperms (including Quercus), sexuality and nuclear behaviour unknown.
Isolates studied: T-551, T-661.
