Description:The basidiocap was found on living stand of Coccoloba diversifolia Jacq., near Matheson Hammock Park, Miami, Florida. (collection No. Yeh, FL-01, date: Aug. 5, 1991).
Cultural and temperature studies
The mycelial mats are white and sphaerical cuticular cells (fig. 5 ) are abundant in culture. Although there are no Bovista-type binding hyphae observed from this pure culture, its species code is very similar to that of G. australe in Taiwan (Yeh and Chen, 1990), namely: 2, 3, 8, 10, 32, 34, 36, 39, 43, 44, 54, 60. (following Nobles, 1965). The optimum growth temperature of dikaryotic cultures of this species is 32°C (fig. 6 ), and is similar to the subtropical Group 1 isolates of G. australe in Taiwan (Yeh and Chen, 1990), but has a lower average growth rate of 3.5 mm/day at the optimum growth temperature.
4. Compatibility studies
As shown in Table 1, the dikaryotic mycelia of this species was able to cross with monokaryotic mycelia of G. australe TAI-01 in Taiwan. It is confirmed by this mating test that Florida isolate is identical to G. australe.
