Description:Trechispora mollusca (Pers.) Liberta, Can. J. Bot. 51(10): 1878, 1974.
Bas.: Boletus molluscus Pers., Syn. meth. fung. (Göttingen) 2: 547, 1801.
Basidiome resupinate, effused, soft, cottony, brittle when dry, hymenophore poroid with round to angular pores, 2-5 per mm, pore surface white, margin wide, fimbriate and rhizomorphic. Hyphal system monomitic, generative hyphae with clamps, thin- to slightly thick-walled 2-5 ?m wide, hyaline, richly branched, with some ampullate septa, encrusted with granular to bipyramidal crystals. Cystidia absent. Basidia cylindrical, with a slight median constriction, some pleurobasidia present, 10-15 x 5-6 ?m, with 4-sterigmata, and with a basal clamp. Basidiospores subglobose, 3.5-4.5 x 2.5-3.5 ?m, densely aculeate, hyaline, IKI-.
Distribution in Europe: Austria, Estonia, Germany, Irland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Greece, United Kingdom, Belgium, Slovenia, Russia, France, Bulgaria, Portugal, Turkey, Sweden, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, and the Caucasus. Common species in Europe and recorded in Italy from Piemonte, Trentino Alto-Adige, Veneto, Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Toscana, and Calabria.
Substrata: on Populus alba, Ulmus minor, Quercus pubescens, Q. ilex, Alnus viridis, very decayed stumps of Abies alba and Pinus laricio,.
