Description:Vuilleminia comedens (Nees) Maire, Bull. Soc. mycol. Fr. 18(suppl.): 81, 1902.
Bas.: Thelephora comedens Nees, Syst. Pilze (Würzburg): 239, 1816.
Basidiome resupinate, effused, decorticant, ceraceous to gelatinous when fresh, hymenophore smooth, cream to ochraceous. Hyphal system monomitic, hyphae clamped, usually thin-walled, 2-3 µm wide, sinuous, with numerous dendrohyphidia. Cystidia absent. Basidia clavate, sinuous, 70-120 µm long, 5-8 µm wide in the upper part, basally narrower ab. 2-3 µm wide, with 4 long sterigmata, and a basal clamp. Basidiospores allantoid, 18-23(25) x 5-7(7.5) µm, smooth, thin-walled, IKI-, acyanophilous, with oildrops.
Distribution in Europe: Russia, Turkey, Estonia, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Macedonia, Slovenia, Serbia, United Kingdom, Belgium, Slovenia, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Portugal, Turkey, Sweden, Austria, Italy, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, Spain, Ukraine, and the Caucasus. Common and widespread species in all European countries.
Substrata: it typically occurs on dead but still attached branches, mainly of Quercus spp., but also of Populus alba, Fagus sylvatica, Crataegus monogina and Ilex aquifolium.
