ETYMOLOGY: likroi, the branches on a stag's antlers; stroma, bed, framework.
GENDER: neuter.
MONOTYPE: (Corticium subgiganteum Berk. =) Licrostroma subgiganteum (Berk.) Lemke, comb. nov.
[Michenera Berk. et Curt., Jour. Linn. Soc. Bot. 10: 333. 1868 (nomen anamorphosis).
LECTOTYPE: Michenera artocreas Berk. et Curt. (= imperfect state of Licrostroma subgiganteum (Berk.) Lemke, comb. nov.)]
Fructificatio corticioidea vel effuso-refiexa, interrupta dein inaequaliter coalescens, usque ad 15 cm longam et 4 cm latam, denso-membranacea, in sectione usque ad 1000 µm crassam; margine determinata, adnata vel reflexa. Superficies hymenii continua, siccata cremea vel alutacea; superficies abhymenii, detecta, glabra. Contextus dimiticus. Hyphae generantes enodulosae, tenuiter usque firmule tunicatae; hyphae basales baud septatae, firme tunicatae, ramosae, ramis similis cornibus, fastigatis. Hyphae basales rarae vel amplae, frequenter stratum basale compactum formantis et in medio iodato immersae non-dextrinoideae. Hymenium é paraphysoideis, pseudocystidiis, et basidiis compositum. Pseudocystidia (macrocystidia) fiexuoso-cylindracea vel subclavata, usque ad 250 x (8-)12-18(-23) µm, haud septata dein pseudo­septata, tenuiter usque firme tunicata, apicibus rotundis vel fastigatis. Basidia rara, magna, cylindracea, usque ad 100 x 18 µm. Basidiosporae magnae, usque ad 19 x 16 µm, basi prominenter apiculatae, tunica firma, levi, in medio iodato immersa non-amyloidea.
