Remarks:Four species are currently known in the Sagiolechiaceae, Sagiolechia protuberans, S. atlantica, S. parasitica and Rhexophiale rhexoblephara. The two genera of the family, Sagiolechia and Rhexophiale are mainly differentiated by the ontogeny of their fruiting bodies (Henssen, 1995). Sagiolechiaceae are typical ostropalean ascomycetes regarding their ascoma development, asci and spore characters, and photobionts, which are all characters shared with different groups of fungi within the Ostropales s.l. Traits that characterise Sagiolechiaceae are the dark fruiting bodies and exposed hymenia. The ascomata margin is often irregular, and conical outgrowths of excipuloid tissue can occur within the hymenium.
