Latin diagnosis

Basidiocarpo annuo, lateralis, superimpositus, pileus miniatus vel salmonicolor, polis cremei-albus, basidiosporis ovoideis, (4.9-)5.6-7.0(-8.3) × (3.1-)3.9-4.7(-5.0) µm, differt. Habitat in partibus Asiae olientali boreali et temperati.

Original description

Basidiocarps annual, laterally substipitate to sessile, imbricate, sometimes occurring in large imbricate clusters up to 50 cm or more extent; pileus dimidiate to flabelliform, up to 24 cm wide and 32 cm long, upper surface light orange to reddish orange when fresh (5YR7/12-15, 10YR8/12), fading to pale brown with age or drying, glabrous, azonate to faintly zonate, radially furrowed, when fresh; pore surface yellowish white to cream, sometimes pale pinkish white, pores nearly circular at first, becoming more angular in age, 2-4 per mm, with thin dissepiments that quickly become lacerate; context white to pale yellow (5Y9/2-4), azonate, brittle and sappy or succulent when fresh, up to 3 cm thick, becoming crumbly and white in old deteriorating specimens; tube layer white to pale yellow (5Y9/2-4) when fresh, drying pale buff, distinct, up to 3 mm thick; taste mild, smell like garbage, unpleasant.
Hyphal system dimitic; contextual generative hyphae thin-walled, hyaline, simple-septate, with rare branching, 4.6-15 µm in diam; contextual binding hyphae solid to thick-walled, hyaline, nonseptate, much branched and interlocking, up to 22 µm in diam.; tramal generative hyphae thin-walled, hyaline simple-septate, 2.4-3.6 µm in diam.; tramal skeletal hyphae thick- to solid-walled, 2.4-4.4 µm in diam. Cystidia or other sterile hymenial elements lacking. Basidia clavate, 2-4 sterigmate, 15-20 × 5-8 µm, simple-septate at the base. Basidiospores ovoid to ellipsoid, hyaline, smooth, IKI -, CB -, (4.9-)5.6-7 (-8.3)×(3.1-)3.9-4.7(-5) µm, L = 6.3 µm, W = 4.4 µm, r = 1.43, R = 1.29-1.63 (n = 120/4).
Substrata: on dead logs and stumps of hardwoods, also near the base of living hardwoods, most frequent on Quercus spp. in the cool temperate to boreal areas in Japan and China.


Etymology

Latin, with cream colored pores, referring to the colour of the pore surface.
